Succeeding in NCEA is considerably easier than most people realise, the reason being that the achievement standards state what you have to be able to do in order to get achieved, merit and excellence. The main purpose of this web site is to guide your revision so as to improve your chances of success without much more effort than is really necessary. With appropriate guidance, achievement grades are well within reach of the vast majority of students and merit grades are well within reach of most students. If revision is done without appropriate guidance then you are at risk of getting “not achieved” even if you have merit or excellence skills. In order to avoid this problem, your revision for each achievement standard should be in the following order:
  1. Ensure that you have mastered all of the skills required for achievement.
  2. Ensure that you have mastered all of the additional skills required for merit.
  3. Further develop your excellence skills.
There are diagnostic tests on this web site to find which of the achievement and merit skills you lack. After sitting those tests, you are presented with book references to help you develop those missing skills. Also, there are hints and model answers to past NZQA examination papers with an indication of which questions or parts thereof relate to achievement, merit and excellence. As a result, attempting those examinations provides another method of finding out which topics you need to concentrate your revision on. To find out how to use this site effectively, click here.
